Swingarm and Suspension linkage and Rear Hub Reassembly
..........
Push the clean and freshly grease packed hub hub back into the
swingarm with the off centre towards the bottom.
Push the adjustor plate into place
Give the sealed bearings in the hub and the contact surfaces and splines on
the axle a light coat of grease before sliding the axle back into place..
This will help protect against ingress of water and make it all easier to take
apart next time
Slide the cush drive into place on the axle.
Place some small blobs of grease on the swingarm frame spacer to
hold it in place
And push it into place inside the left side of the frame
Give the swingarm spindle a thin even coat of grease
Place the swingarm into position and push the spindle in.
Note the new chain rub strip in place, the old one was pretty worn
and needed replacing.
Push the spindle all the way home. Wipe any excess grease off.
Using the triumph tool xxxxx or a home made tool tighten the
swingarm adjustment nut to 15Nm
Using the triumph tool xxxxx or a home made tool tighten the
lock ring nut to 30Nm
Make a couple of little marks with a marker pen or crayon to mark the
position of the adjustter nut and lock ring so you can ensure they dont move
when you do up the spindle bolt.
Then screw in the spindle bolt finger tight and torque up to 60Nm
Little strongman is perfect for this job
Check the marks to make double sure the adjuster nut and lock
ring did not move
Put the suspension unit in place
Give the bolt a light coat of grease and push it into place through
the hole in the right side of the frame.
And get the chief mechanic to torque it up to 48Nm
Grease the bearing sleeve that joins the droplink to the swingarm and tap it
part way through the swingarm.
Position the drop link and tap the sleeve through it.
Make absolutely sure it is the right way around. The top side is marked.
Dont you think the drop link looks much nicer now its green.
Make sure the bearing sleeve is seated all the way home into the
recess.
Slide the bolt home and torque it up to 48Nm
Place the spacers either side of the suspension unit and thread the bolt
through.
Torque it up to 48Nm.
Place the drag link in position, its a tight fit and may take a bit of wiggling.
Thread the bolt through and torque it up to 48Nm
Lift the swingarm to line up the holes and thread the last bolt through the
droplink.
Torque it up to 48Nm
Place some copper grease on the sliding adjustor plate and brake
carrier on the contact areas.
Use a set of heavy duty circip pliers to put the circlip back into place.
Make sure the circlip is seated correctly.
Replace the thrust washer
Run a small bead of grease around the recess on the collared washer and
push it into place.
Again, this grease is just to assist with water ingress.
Bellville washer.
Make sure it is the right way around.
The concave dished side goes inwards.
New collared axle nut
Place a large screwdriver or bar through the slots in the sprocket and brake
disc to prevent it turning and torque the acle nut up to xxx (I need to check
this torque)
Use a drift or punch to punch the collar in to the security slot.
Using the slack in the chain run the chain back onto the rear
sprocket, making sure it is seated on the chain rub strip on the top
run of the swingarm.
Exhaust Intermetiate Link pipe and Silencer...................................................
Position the link pipe into place. Take care not to damage the braid
gasket
In position
Make sure the clamp is in position and the little peg is located and
do it up to 15Nm
Do up the mounting bolt to 15Nm. Take care not to break the
rubber grommet
Push the silencer into position by locating it on the link pipe and
the two mounting pegs
Then push up the rear and slide in the silencer mounting bolt.
Do the clamp joining the link pipe to the silencer up to 22Nm
Do the mounting bolt up to 15Nm
Replace the tail tidy and the luggage stabiliser bar if you have one
and do the bolts up to 20Nm with a small drop of threadlock.
