Daytona Airbox and Filter

Changing the air filter on these bikes couldnt be simpler.
Once the tank is off, undo the four screws holding in the filter.

Slide out the holder and the old filter.
Note the old filter being removed here was fitted by an idiot and it is incorrectly the wrong way around.
If you put the filter in with the rubber seal facing forwards, it can not seal, and the air goes around it which defeats the point of fitting it.
It also sits loose and can rattle and it is possible that it can move forwards out of the holder and displace itself completely.

New filter being fitted the correct way around.
This is a standard filter.
You would think that the mesh should be on the forward facing side to protect it, but apparently not.
Many aftermarket filters like PiperX and K&N have a metal mesh front and back wich is a big improvement over the standard OEM paper filter shown here.
If you are only changing the filter, there is nothing more to do and you can replace the tank.

If you need to remove the air box, you dont need to open the airbox to remove it

Remove air intake pipes from the front of the air box

Undo the thermostat from its mounting on the top of the air box

Disconnect the electrical connector

In a massive leap of good design the bolt that holds down the front of the air box is hidden underneath it. You can see it here. Access it from the left side of the bike with a socket on a long extension bar

The three throttle bodies are each held onto the airbox by a metal pipe clip that has to be loosened with a small screwdriver.
Another quantum leap in good design.
If they have moved around like they have on this one, you cant get at them.
Later models have self sealing spring clips.

Once the airbox is lifted, disconnect the pressure sensor. If the electric connectors wont come apart unscrew the sensor from the air box.
Refitting

Refitting is just the reverse. Make sure the circlips line up so you can reach them to do them up

Drop the airbox more or less in position

Reconnect the electrical connectors

This is the hardest bit, getting the box to fit over the throttle bodies without folding, pinching or rolling over.
Its a royal pain in the arse, just take time and dont force it and eventually it will slide on.

Tighten the hidden bolt underneath

Refit the ram air duct
